Dear Benicia Community,

I hope these summer months are providing you with some space and time to relax, rejuvenate, and gear up for the 2018-19 school year.  School starts on August 20, 2018, and we are enthusiastically preparing for the new school year!  While summer months can seem quiet for a school district, a great deal of work continues to take place in the areas of facilities and maintenance, technology, human resources, business services, to name a few.  I would like to thank all of our hard working team members for their extra efforts in helping us be prepared for the return of our students and all staff.

An additional focus includes the negotiations process with the Benicia Teachers Association (BTA).  I am pleased to announce that both parties met today and we successfully reached a Tentative Agreement.  This is good news!  The BTA will now take the Tentative Agreement for a vote to all teachers when they return from summer break.

I will provide you with updates as we move through this process. We remain optimistic the BTA will vote to ratify the Tentative Agreement.  While we wait for the final vote, please know all schools in the District will be open and ready to receive all of our students and staff on the first day of school.

Sincerely,
Charles F. Young, Ed.D.
Superintendent
